Time remaining — day s — hour s — minute s — second s. As she inches closer to the twisted truths at the centre of these murders, it becomes clear that she’s dealing with a version of justice terrifyingly different to her own.
This was one of those rare books that I can’t wait to finish just to be done with it. It’s well written and the characters are interesting, but I found the story dragged at times.
Help for the Haunted is an extraordinary helo that defies categorization. Told partly in two-stage flashbacks childhood and the previous winter and present-day, we hear Sylvie puzzling out what happened one dark and stormy night sorry – but sometimes the writing does sink to that level; not often, but occasionally when her parents ended up dead, shot in a church.
But it never came. Searles is a good writer when he wants to be. They deal with people having problems with ghosts or demons or both. Write a customer review.
I’m pretty patient in that regard but even I, wanted more. How so in this book? The hair on the nape of your neck begins to bristle and stand stiff early on in this new work and it does not lay flat and straight once you finish reading. The Lost Book of the Grail: Then we get detail after boring detail regarding what happened to Sylvie after she was “rescued”.

The ending for me started to get better and I wish the author had elaborated more on Rose and her distorted life.

Sylvie and Rose, their daughters, on the other hand, are pretty normal kids; Rose starts to rebel in what seem to be normal, teenage girl ways but that has an outsized effect on their father. Want to Read saving…. Then there are aspects that don’t make sense, like Abigail and the doll. The parents are a bit of a mystery.
Set up a giveaway. The character of Sylvie is interesting and well developed, but nearly every other character seems forced or shallow, leaving questions hanging overhead, hoping for more depth.

This new novel by an already beloved author is wonderful. But he tends to rehash the same ideas and events, and drags out the story too much.

Unfortunately Rose is a cliche troubled young woman.
