Still, if you are willing to look through the way ideas are presented, and concentrate on the underlying message, it’s definitely worth a read.

I’m a jivamukti yoga practitioner so this book provided a great foundation on this style of yoga but is also good for anyone wanting to learn more about the physical and spiritual practice of yoga. Jivamukti Yoga practices this through chanting and inspirational music. Their book gives readers a glimpse of the power of yoga to transform lives.
Alternative Therapies Exercise Philosophy. I got to take some of there classes last year at the SWYC. I was very turned off by this. The area that I wasn’t sure I aligned was with their suggestion that yoga might be a religion, rather than a philosophy.
Contrary to many other schools of yoga, Jivamukti teachers generally do not do the postures while they teach a class. This is my big take-away from the book: I resisted reading this book for a long time. It is the most “real” type of yoga I have ever done and makes me feel incredible!

For example, if I have a bad day at work through no fault of my own and go home with a negative attitude, the result, if I choose to maintain the negative attitude, is that I will say hurtful things to those around me.

This book has a small section of photographed sequences to try, which will keep me busy for a while, but much of it is focused on a way yota life, rather than the physical postures of yoga. However, if not for efforts of those who have gone before me or for the graces of the Divine, I would not have the actions or words I have.
